Confined Space

We walk your team through confined space entries and rescues one step at a time.

For all Confined Space courses, the facility will need:

A place with chairs and tables for the team to gather in between drills and for breaks (conference room, warehouse with chairs and tables, maintenance shop outside if weather permits etc).
Access to horizontal and vertical confined spaces your team will enter that can be taken down for 1-2 hours during class for drilling.
Confined Space Assessments (if you have them).
LOTO procedures for spaces we will enter (if you have them).
LOTO authorized training for class participants that will enter spaces
Lock boxes as applicable.
SCBAs (if you have them).
Physicals within 12 months for any employee that will wear a respirator
A way to fill SCBA bottles at the end of each class.
Harnesses and lanyards.
Tripod/Davit system with winches for vertical entries (if applicable).
Multi-gas Meter with current calibration.
Your permit.
Hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, work clothes, and steel toed boots for participants.
Tyvek suits for wastewater, boiler, DAF etc type entries.
Greater than 7 people for each class (less than 7 significantly and adversely impacts our ability to drill, reducing the integrity of the course).

For all Confined Space courses, participants will receive:

One year of consultation at no charge in regards Confined Space, including consultation during and after entries/rescues.
All training is 100% customized for your location and your company (we do not have a “stock” course that is generalized to fit all industries).
We train utilizing your location’s permit, assessments, and your safety policies and procedures.
Training on location on your location’s PPE and equipment, and drills occur within your location’s spaces.
Courses will drill for the majority of the course.
Drills are in line with current trends and incidents in industry that have occurred within the last 12 months.
Drills and information covered will change from year to year.
You will receive a schedule for reference and a critique for each course.
All courses receive information about respirators covered.
All courses receive information about meters covered.
All courses receive certificate list.
All participants will receive a certificate.
A large variety of snacks will be provided throughout the course.
All participants are eligible to select a gift at no additional cost to you from our website (hats, shirts, coffee thermos etc) that is shipped directly to the address of their choosing.

8 Hour Confined Space Entry, Attendant, Supervisor and Rescue

Training timeline: At initial job assignment and annually thereafter.
Prerequisite: A physical within 12 months for all individuals is required to wear a SCBA or APR.
Classes consist of approximately 6.5 hours of hands-on training.
This course covers all of the information in our 4 Hour Confined Space Entry, Attendant and Supervisor course.
Drills will encompass the locations permit, assessments, equipment, policies, and procedures.
This course is designed for all individuals expected to perform confined space entry, attendant, supervisor, and rescue duties.
Both entry and non-entry rescue are covered.
Rescue of injured people in IDLH and non-IDLH conditions are covered during training.
Classes consist of vertical and horizontal entries and rescues.
The classes also cover Agency response.
Each person will be perform different roles throughout the day of the course.
Time will be used during the day to conduct critiques.
Class size is a minimum of 7 and a maximum of 25 (Less than 7 affect the ability to conduct full scale drills).
Individuals will only be certified if they demonstrate competency throughout the training.

4 Hour Confined Space Entry, Attendant and Supervisor

Training timeline: At initial job assignment and annually thereafter.
Prerequisite: NONE.
Classes consist of approximately 2.5 hours of hands on training.
This course is designed for all individuals expected to perform confined space entry, attendant, or supervisor duties, or manage contractor entries.
Drills will encompass the location’s permits, assessments, equipment, policies and procedures.
Non-entry rescue is covered during the training.
The classes also cover Agency response.
Time will be used during the day to conduct critiques.
Class size is a minimum of 7 and a maximum of 25 (Less than 7 affect the ability to conduct full scale drills).
Individuals will only be certified if they demonstrate competency throughout the training.

Confined Space Train the Trainer

This course is anywhere from two to five days in length based on the number and complexity of spaces at your site.
The class will cover how to train and physically performing all of the tasks associated with the training, including risk evaluation during drills.
The training is hands-on and competency-based.
Both entry and non-entry rescue are covered.
Rescue of injured people in IDLH and/or non-IDLH conditions is covered during training.
Vertical and horizontal spaces will be covered.
Permits and assessments will be covered.

At Allen Safety, we believe that confined space entries and rescues are only risky if your space hazard elimination and control measures are wrong. Each space presents unique challenges, and we believe it actually adds risk to not train teams on the tasks they’d be expected to perform, and to leave them to work through these challenges on their own with less employees and managers present, and no expert trainer present.

Training in live spaces allows a slow pace and protected environment while your team learns the mechanics of using angles and just the right amount of force to achieve entries and rescues with a limited range of motion. That’s why our confined space courses consist of ¾ drilling in real, “live” confined spaces, with the remainder ¼ reviewing in the classroom.

Courses can be held on any shift, on any day of the week.

We recommend for facilities 0-500 having a team of approximately 35 persons, and for facilities 500-3000 having a team of approximately 75-100 persons.

Having depth in your team ensures that each area of the facility has department experts available on off shifts, holidays, weekends, projects, and emergencies that are knowledgeable about the space and required repairs. This also ensures that the same department has a rescue team that is knowledgeable and nearby. If your entry and rescue team is trained and ready to enter the space at any moment to complete a repair, this reduces time spent waiting on a “callback” list or contractor while your downtime clock keeps ticking and your costs keep growing.

We recommend your facility include members from engineering, maintenance, utilities, sanitation, production/operations, wastewater, rendering, production supervisors, safety, and environmental on your team. This is also great for cross-over training and employee engagement.
